Life in the past was not black and white!
Below is a just small sampling of style and color options available
today, reproducing the printed and woven cottons of the 1840s and
1850s. You will find many of these (or very similar prints) in
the historic reproduction quilting cotton section of fabric stores.
White cotton or linen is generally used for undergarments; printed and
plaid cottons in a wide range of colors are lovely for pioneer
clothing; solid, plaid and some striped lightweight wools are also
ideal. Check the Resources section for links to some good
on-line fabric merchants, or print these images to use as a quick
reference while shopping locally.
