Don't forget music--it is an important part of our lives today, and was equally as important to those traveling to Deseret.  Music has the capacity to lift the spirit, encourage one of failing strength, comfort the mourning, and express delight and joy, no matter our circumstance!  If you have not already memorized the lyrics and tunes to this short list of songs, begin now!  You'll be amazed how the Trek experience is enriched by your ability to sing along the trail. Hymn singing keeps our hearts focused on the spiritually rich experience of a Trek, whether the songs are solemn or exuberant.

Visit the Interactive Music Player to review lyrics and tunes, or learn to play them on the piano. (An additional resource for traditional lyrics and tunes is The Cyber Hymnal.) With the Interactive Music Player, you can isolate parts as needed, to teach yourself harmonies.  When looking at the lyrics in the hymnal, don't forget to memorize the additional verses; while we many times do not sing them in meetings, the full text of a hymn has a completeness that you will find worthwhile. A majority of the songs in the LDS hymnal spring from the grand traditions of Christianity, and the early Restoration of the Church.
